Can AI Plan Your European Vacation? Here’s What It Misses
AI is great. It generates ideas fast, paints a pretty picture of a trip, and even makes itself sound very convincing.
But one major pitfall I’ve seen play out is that when it comes to travel planning, the details really matter.
We’ve been planning our own trips for over two decades, with the last ten years focused almost exclusively on Europe. When AI first came along, we hoped that it would help speed things along, but we quickly realized it was anything but a time-saver.
A USA Today article highlighted this perfectly. A traveler who used AI exclusively to plan a Paris trip was directed to visit Musée d'Orsay on a Monday — the one day of the week it’s actually closed. She also asked for restaurant recommendations within a 10-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower, only to find they were more than 20 minutes away.
We’ve experienced this firsthand when planning our son’s European graduation trip. We asked AI for restaurant recommendations and discovered that one of its top “must-visit” picks had been closed for months.
Here’s the trap we kept falling into: follow the AI's suggestions blindly and risk getting bad travel advice. Fact-check every single detail and spend just as many hours researching as before.
Either way, we lose.
Here’s what AI can’t do:
If Grandma has mobility issues, AI can’t coordinate private, step-free mobility transfers.
If mom needs a stroller for her little one, AI won’t steer her away from steep, historic cobblestone stairs.
And it’s certainly not going to fix a missed train connection in real time when you’re standing on a platform in Italy with ten bags and tired kids.
We’ve been planning European trips long enough to know that the details are everything, and no amount of AI-generated confidence can change the fact that a wrong restaurant, a closed museum, or a missed connection can unravel an entire day.
The tools may have gotten shinier. But the logistical headaches didn't go away.
While AI is good for inspiration and ideas, you still have to validate the information. After all, there is a reason every AI tool has a disclaimer at the bottom stating, “AI can make mistakes.”
So what are you supposed to do?
You could keep spending hours upon hours researching, planning, and going down one internet rabbit hole after another. For a seamless European cruise plus a custom land extension, it easily takes 20+ hours of intense logistical mapping to get it right.
That's exactly the gap we built our service to fill.
At Family Tradition Travel, we book European cruises paired with custom land exploration — whether that’s before the cruise, after, or both. We handle the complexity, transfers, multi-generational pacing, and backup plans so you don’t have to.
Let us close those 20+ browser tabs and hand you a plan your entire family can actually trust – one we’d stake our vacation on.
